2008 National Heritage Program
Essay & Art Contest
Theme:  Your national or cultural heritage

Eligibility:  All third grade students in Dorchester District Two Schools

Guidelines:  Using the art medium of your choice, portray your appreciation for your
national or cultural heritage.  Your work must be created between today and February
29, 2008.  Be certain to put your school, class/section, and your name on the back of
your work of art.

Due Date:  Your work of art must be completed and turned in to Mr. Michael Burrell at
Oakbrook Elementary School no later than Friday, February 29, 2008.

Judges:  Members of the Summerville Sertoma Club will be judging the artwork.

Prizes:  The top three winners will receive a $25.00 cash prize.  These students will
be recognized either at their schools or at the Summerville Sertoma Heritage Night
Dinner.  We will call you with details at a later date.

Theme:  Election years always give Americans a time to reflect on the state of the
country under the current administration and how it might be under a new president.  
Please select the candidate that you feel best exemplifies needed change and tell
why you would vote for him/her if you were of voting age.

Eligibility:  All fifth grade students in Dorchester District Two Schools

Guidelines:  Write or type an essay of no more than 150 words to address the topic
above.  Be certain to put your school, class/section, and your name on the back of
your essay.

Due Date:  Your essay must be completed and turned in to Mr. Michael Burrell at
Oakbrook Elementary School no later than Friday, February 29, 2008.

Judges:  Members of the Summerville Sertoma Club will be judging the essays.

Prizes:  The top three essays will receive $50.00 cash prizes.  These students will
be recognized along with their parents at the Summerville Sertoma Club’s Annual
Heritage Banquet Meeting in May.  We will call you with details about time and
location.
